Sued over Showing Explicit Material on Amazon Prime, Netflix and other sites


Delhi High Court on Wednesday requested the central government to respond to requests for removal of obscene and sexually explicit material on online platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and others.

Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V. A division bench of Keshwara Rao gave the list of the matter for further hearing on February 8.




The petition was filed by NGO, Justice for Rights. Harpreet S. Hora, a lawyer present for the NGO asked for laws or guidelines to regulate content available like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other similar platforms.



The petitioner said that online platforms offer pornographic, sexually explicit, obscene, dishonest, controversial, religious prohibited and morally immoral material to attract more customers and profit.



The NGO alleged that most of the material available is in violation of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
